Pierre Martell Receives the BDC 2011 YEA

We’re so excited to announce that our very own Pierre Martell has received the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) 2011 Young Entrepreneur Award (YEA) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan today!

Sponsored by Deloitte, Cisco, BLG, Sage and The Globe and Mail, here are some details about this prestigious award:

Created by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) in 1988, the YEA pay tribute to remarkable young Canadian entrepreneurs who are outstanding not only because of their success in business, but also because of their creativity, innovative spirit and community involvement.

Nominees will be evaluated based on: the originality of the business concept; the company’s success and growth potential ; and the entrepreneur’s and the company’s community involvement. The panel also considers the entrepreneur’s age when the business was started and any special challenges that were overcome.

Pierre’s success was also published in the New Brunswick Business Journal earlier today:

Martell said he was honoured and humbled to be recognized for his entrepreneurship. It hasn’t always been an easy journey, but he says he’s always abided by the principles he put in place: to give the client as stress-free an experience as possible.
“We’ve never missed a closing date, we’ve never gone over budget, and so far … 100 per cent of our customers have had a great experience,” Martell said.

Expansion into Saint John

People who know me know that I like to jump into things with both feet.

So, when we decided to expand Martell Home Builders into a new market – I literally moved into the market. After many, many years of living in Moncton I’m now living in Saint John. I know you are wondering: of course I built my own house!

It only took 93 days.

One big reason the Martell Experience has worked so well in Moncton that I know the community, the people and the neighbourhoods. We want to bring that same level of service to the Saint Johns’ market. I think it will be easier to do when I wake up here in the morning. This is about getting to know and truly understand the surrounding communities and the city of Saint John. (Moncton friends and family, rest assured I’ll be around often – I’m only here for three quarters of the week.)

I’m already getting to know my new community – only about ten lots away from the Saint John river the neighbourhood is very beautiful . The community, Quispamsis, is amazing. And my neighbourhood Deer Haven has already lived up to its’ name: I’ve already seen the deer it’s named after four times!

Here is a picture of the new house; but please don’t let pictures be the only way you see my place – just invite yourself over! I’d be happy to give you a tour. Just send a quick note on our contact section and we will set it up:

Going to Blog World Expo

vegas-blog-world-martell-homes

I’m really pumped. In about a month I’m headed to Vegas! No, I’m not going for a bachelor party. Nice guess. I’m actually heading down for business.

I’ve been asked to be a panelist at an amazing web conference in Nevada, the Blog World Expo. One of the biggest web conferences in Vegas.

Jason Falls of Social Media Explorer put together this really great panel; in his note to the participants he called The Martell Experience “my favourite social media case study” (you can read more about what he has to say about our team here) and here is a bit of what he had to say about the people appearing with me on the stage:

Our moderator is going to be Arik Hanson – a fine social media and internet marketing mind and blogger who is principal of his own communications firm in Minneapolis. He is online at Arikhanson.com

Becky McCray – Brings two important perspectives to this panel as a small business owner but also the mastermind behind Smallbizsurvival.com – one of the best small biz resources for Web 2.0 thinking out there. She’s a veteran of the speaking circuit and knows here stuff.

Natasha Westcoat is one of the leading contemporary artists of our time and has leveraged social media successfully for a few years now to distribute, promote and sell her work, which is on display in many corporate and private collections around the country. Find her at Natashawescoat.com

Mack Collier is one of the leading social media thinkers out there. He’s the author of The Viral Garden and is a small business owner himself (http://mackcollier.com) as a social media consultant and mentor. His client work includes several small business success stories.

As Jason says, “The panel isn’t just case studies on small businesses leveraging social media and how they went about planning and doing it, but also giving small business owners some useful next steps.”

So, at 4:45 p.m Vegas time on Saturday, Oct. 17. I’ll be sharing the Martell Experience with these folks and the massive audience at Blog World Expo. But I’m blogging about it now so you can be part of the action!

What should I tell the Vegas crowd? Would any of our customers, staff or friends want me to mention anything specific?

Please leave a comment. My presentation for Blog World Expo will get better with your help.
