Thanks to our friends at XL96 Country, the generosity of our vendors and tons of hard work and planning, the MHB team got to experience the thrill of a lifetime last Saturday. This thrill? Giving away a Martell Home- free and clear- to John Baxter & his family, of Lower Coverdale, NB. Not to mention also pulling off the largest radio giveaway ever, east of Calgary!
Months ago, the idea was born. It all started with a bet between morning hosts Scotty Horsman & Tony Smith… could Tony quit bacon for a week? They called it #bacation. Tension ran deep and stakes were high… things seemed to be getting out of hand when Tony bet his new (under-construction) Martell Home. Imagine his surprise when he lost the bet! Some said he was set up but rules are rules and he did consume the bacon.
Construction continued and the MHB team could not believe what legs this contest had developed. Everywhere we went, people were talking about the home giveaway… including the drive-thru girls at Tim’s. People were ecstatic and the contest was the talk of the town…
Fast forward to Saturday, October 26, 2013. Eligible contestants had been narrowed down to 46 people and they all stood patiently in line, waiting for their chance to insert their key into the door of 35 Holland and see if they had the only key that would open the lock. They approached the door one-by-one and the suspense was ridiculous.
And finally, John Baxter and his granddaughter approached the house with Key #17. And well, you should probably watch it for yourself:
To everyone who helped make this promotion a reality, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. This was truly the highlight of our year (or more) and we are so grateful that we were able to be a part of this. To the Baxters, we hope you enjoy the home as much as we loved building it!
WIN Tony’s New Home! XL 96.9 announced last week, the biggest radio contest EVER in Atlantic Canada! XL Country 96.9 and Martell Homes have teamed up give away a newly built home. In fact, its still being built now! Stop by 35 Holland Drive in Moncton, and see it for yourself!
You don’t need to buy a ticket to win this home. This is a contest for XL Listeners ONLY!
Weekdays at 7:10a, 8:10a, 9:10a, 1:10p, 3:10p, and 5:10p, call us to hide your key! There is only one catch: You have to remember where the LAST listener hid their key to win!
Remember where the last key was hidden, and you could win a NEW Martell Home! Imagine, being MORTGAGE FREE for LIFE!
This is a contest to write home about! So tune in to XL Country 96.9 all week, and your families dreams could come true.
We are so excited to give away a house!!

In case you didn’t know… WE LOVE OUR CUSTOMERS!
Yup, you read it right, we love our customers and our 2012 Customer Appreciation Day on August 18th was one opportunity to show that! Over 150 members of our Martell Homes family showed up to celebrate another fantastic year with us which made it our biggest CAD to date. At this year’s event we enjoyed a rock climbing wall, dunk tank, magician, Jared Lutes Band, and bouncy castle which means that there was something for everyone! We also celebrated our customers by giving away thousands of door prizes from local vendors (prizes included lawn mowers and bbqs !).You can check out all of the pictures of our day on SmugMug or our Facebook Page
At the Customer Appreciation Day we also had an opportunity to fundraise for two causes close to our hearts: the Riverview Boys and Girls Club and the CIBC Run for the Cure. While selling tickets (50/50 and dream cottage) might seem a little “stale”, Pierre and Bruno certainly put the “FUN” back in fundraising by sitting in the dunktank and raffling off tickets for the first throw!
We had so much fun at this year’s Customer Appreciation Day and we hope that you did too! What was your favorite part?
Here at Martell Homes we are getting ready for the CIBC Run for the Cure happening on September 30th! And we want you! That’s right, we want you on our team as we run to end breast cancer.
Now, you may be saying “Yeahhh but I don’t run!”.. and that’s okay for 2 reasons!. 1) You don’t have to run when you’re doing the Run for the Cure, you can walk! and 2) We’re here to give you some tips so that you can!
Here are our top 5 tips on how to run better:
1. Be the Turtle When Training – While we all get a little excited when we start something new it’s really important when running to start conservatively and allow yourself to progress. The danger is that if you start too aggressively you can set yourself up for some less than desireble injuries. Try adding 10% to your run every week for the first three weeks and then back off a bit (20%) for the following week.
2. Treat Your Feet – Having the proper footwear is essential. We’ve all done it, we’ve gone to the store and bought new runners without actually getting them to properly size and evaluate our feet needs. Take your time when you go to get your runners and make sure that you have the absolute best fit and shoe to help you avoid running injuries.
3. Bring a Friend: There’s nothing like having someone there beside you to keep you motivated, entertained, and engaged. Bring someone along who you know will support you and encourage you in your goal. Having someone also makes you more likely to keep up your running schedule because you’re less likely to make excuses not to run if you know someone is depending on you.
4. Keep Your Gear Ready – Always have your running gear (clothes, shoes, water, watch) ready in a bag so that any time you have a burst of energy or motivation you can take advantage of it without getting slowed down by prep.
5. Enter Races – Races give you a goal which will make you more focused and motivated to push yourself to be the best you can be. The CIBC Run for the Cure is the perfect opportunity for you to set a goal and work towards it. If you’re interested in joining (or supporting) or Martell Homes team check out our donation page here!
Check out this blog for more tips on how you can run better.
This Wednesday we held another fundraiser for our CIBC Run for the Cure team! Our great friends at Kent sponsored a delicious BBQ for our trades workers and we took the opportunity to sell some sweet treats to the men as well. We raised $133for our Run for the Cure team which is fantastic and we can’t wait for our next chance to raise even more. Check out the pictures below and then go here to donate to our team!
Kindle Winner Kevin & Customer Experience Representative Natalie Davison
We love to give away prizes- after all, what’s more fun that calling someone to tell them that they’ve won… especially when they aren’t expecting it!
Regularly throughout the year, Martell Home Builders draws a name from open house sign-ins for a thank you prize- to show our appreciation for visiting us and hearing about our homes. Our most recent Open House Draw was for a Kindle e-Reader. I have to admit, I was a little jealous to hand this one over… it’s on my wish list this year:)
Congratulations to Kevin for being selected! Happy Reading.
It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year: MHB Customer Appreciation Day! When we get to kick back and have some fun our favourite people- our customers!
This year’s event was held at Mapleton Lodge. The weather was perfect, the food was great & the entertainment was top notch. We enjoyed music by The Jared Lutes Band, bouncy castles, face painting and even a magician! Oh, and prizes galore including our grand prize: A Getaway Vacation to a location of the winner’s choice- donated by Church Flooring.
If we haven’t given you reason enough to build a Martell Home, an invite to the best party in town might just be the ticket!

“Join us this Sunday and step inside our first EcoPlusHomes in Moncton”
– Pierre Martell
Sunday August 21 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sterling Meadows development on MacCoun Street, just off the old Shediac Road in Moncton
This Sunday we’re excited to host a special event with launching the province’s first ECOmmunity – featuring two EcoPlusHomes constructed by our team in the past couple of months.
From 1pm until 4pm, visitors will be able to tour the homes and talk with industry representatives about the energy efficiencies and how they literally put money in your pocket as a homeowner.
The high EnerGuide scores of 93 or greater, have earned each home a $7,500 energy efficiency incentive rebate – the maximum available from Efficiency New Brunswick for new-home construction.
These carbon-conscious homes can save their owners $3,500 in energy costs and reduce green house gases by more than 80% each year – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Resale values for EcoPlusHomes should also be accelerated as North American energy costs continue to rise in the years to come.
Depending on your energy-use habits, these homes can also help pay down your mortgage faster than if you build or buy a home with conventional energy efficiency standards.
Each of the Sterling Meadows EcoPlusHomes is constructed using two airtight modular sections in partnership with Fredericton-based Maple Leaf Homes. The home itself is powered by a network of integrated renewable energy sources from Bosch of Germany – helping to redefine the future of sustainable homebuilding.
As Pierre Martell points out, “Depending on the energy consumption habits of its eventual owners, Moncton’s EcoPlusHomes have the potential to be “net-zero” – meaning their photovoltaic solar panels generate at least as much electricity as the homes and their occupants consume.”
Axel Lerche, President of EcoPlusHomes has worked directly with Martell Home Builders to ensure these homes exceed industry standards while remaining affordable and accessible, to the public and the eco-conscious developer.
“It is our sincere hope that citizens, developers and municipalities across North America will look to the EcoPlusHomes in Moncton’s Sterling Meadows as a meaningful, practical example of how best to meet the growing demand for cost and energy-efficient housing that reduces electrical demand and green house gas emissions, and saves people money.” said Lerche.
The Martell Home Builders ECOmmunity will be open for public tours from 2-4 pm every Sunday beginning August 21, 2011. For a private tour please contact Natalie Davison at 506-232-1276 or natalie@themartellexperience.com.

What are you doing October 2, 2011?
We hope that you’ll be joining us in the CIBC Run For The Cure as Martell Hope Builders! We want to raise a TON of money to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation & we want to have one of the biggest teams in the city. Friends, family, everyone… join Martell Hope Builders as we run/walk/crawl/get-pushed-in-a-stroller for the cure!
If you absolutely cannot join us on October 2 and want to support us, you can make a donation by clicking the same link.
Let’s have a blast raising as much money as we can for the cure!
“The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada’s largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, and education and awareness programs. It was created by a small group of volunteers who wanted to raise awareness and funds for the cause. The first event took place in Toronto in 1992 where over 1,500 participants raised $85,000.
Last year, support of the Run for the Cure grew stronger, with record-breaking dollars raised and unwavering corporate and volunteer support. In 60 communities, more than 170,000 supporters united as runners, walkers, donors, volunteers and partners, to raise $33 million. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is extremely grateful for this support and is honoured to be entrusted by the nation to continue to lead the way in creating a future without breast cancer.
Run or walk 5k or 1k at this year’s Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 2nd.” (www.runforthecure.com)
